SATIRE is a FIRE (attack) against human vices brought forward through irony or sarcasm in a novel or play.Sarcasm+Fire

Shard
a piece of broken pottery or glass
Example:-
Secrets which are encoded in crystal shards retrieved from the sunken city.
Mnemonic:-
s + hard..it is very HARD to join the broken FRAGMENTS OF POTTERY.

Solicitous
concerned and attentive; eager
Example:-
I appreciated his solicitous inquiry about my health.
Mnemonic:-
soli(solo) : if you are doing a work alone, then you will do it with much eager and concern.

Soporific
causing drowsiness; tending to induce sleep.
Example:-
the sporific lecture given by the professor caused everyone to yawn
Mnemonic:-
(in hindi) 100(soo) puri kha kar I felt soporific.

Sordid
filthy; vile; unethical or dishonest
Example:-
The social worker was angered by the sordid housing provided for the homeless.
Mnemonic:-
SORry, I DID this filthy, vile thing.

Sparse
thin; not dense; arranged at widely spaced intervals
Example:-
The meal they gave me was sparse and I was still rather hungry afterwards.

Specious
seeming true, but actually being fallacious; misleading attractive
Example:-
The student had some good ideas, but usually used specious arguments in his written work. 
Mnemonic:-
It sounds like 'suspicious'.

Spendthrift
one who wastes money wastefully
Example:-
That might be true, but there was no point in working at becoming a spendthrift simply because he had money.
Mnemonic:-
Spendthrift is actually a misnomer...split it as SPEND+THRIFT. Thrifty means, careful use of resources, so a spendthrift should actually mean someone who carefully spends money, but it means SOMEONE WHO WASTES MONEY.

Sporadic
occurring in scattered and irregular instances.
Example:-
a city subjected to a sporadic bombing instances.
Mnemonic:-
sporadic -----> opposite of periodic.

Spurious
lacking authenticity or validity; false; counterfeit
Example:-
Television personalities often make spurious comments to provoke discussion.
Mnemonic:-
s-PURE+ious...pure means true...spurious means the opposite of it..which is FALSE,CONTERFEIT

Squalid
sordid; wretched and dirty as from neglect.
Example:-
However, until 1970 a group of rather squalid houses stood here
Mnemonic:-
If a LIDED can is SQUASHED, it gets everything filthy and dirty.
      
Squander
spend thoughtlessly; throw away.
Example:-
If you squander your allowance on candy and comic books, you won't have any money left to buy the new box of crayons you want.
Mnemonic:-
SQUANDER rhymes with WANDER .... so if you keep wandering, you are ultimately wasting time in life.

Stoic
unaffected by pleasure or pain.
Example:-
I wasn't particularly stoic when I had my flee shot.
Mnemonic:-
Think "Stone-Like" ----> To be like a stone means you don't experience pleasure or pain.

Stupefy
make stupid.
Example:-
Seeing the playground covered with snow in July will positively stupefy the children.
Mnemonic:-
remember it like stupidity. 

Stymie
to block; to prevent the progress of.
Example:-
The detective was stymied by the contradictory evidence in the robbery investigation.
Mnemonic:-
Stymie is a negative word. Stymie means "tie me" i.e. prevent from moving forward.

Subpoena
a court order requiring appearance and/or testimony
Example:-
I have received a subpoena stating that I must attend court next Friday 13th.
Mnemonic:-
Its pretty simple... read it as COURT MEIN "SABOOT POST KARNA"!!!

Subtle
not obvious; able to make fine distinction; difficult to detect or grasp by the mind or analyze
Example:-
The emotion was fleeting, more in a subtle shift of his eyebrows than in a smile or sudden change.
Mnemonic:-
subtle:substitute,if a main player is down,then coach will substitute him and the the substitute is not known n difficult to detect....

Succinct
brief; concise
Example:-
Contract language should be clear,concise and succinct.
Mnemonic:-
SUCK+INK - brief/summary of story sucks less ink on the paper

Superfluous
exceeding what is sufficient or necessary; more than is needed, desired, or required; excess; extra
Example:-
It is superfluous to have 36 pairs of shoes when you always wear the same five pairs. 
Mnemonic:-
divide it as super+flow.. when there is large(super) flow of water, it becomes EXCESSIVE / OVERABUNDANCE of water..

Surfeit
excess; overindulgence
Example:-
In other words, there is a huge shortage of money and a vast surfeit of debt!

Synthesis
the combination of parts to become a whole.
Example:-
